Located on the Douro river-front in the historic Ribeira district, smack in the old heart of Porto. A tall house with wonderful views of the river, the old Port lodges, and the Fonte Taurina street (first referenced in 1296), it is set on the old city’s Ferdinand wall. Recently renovated, it is the only small luxury guesthouse on the Ribeira waterfront. The style is modern, private and quiet. There are eight elegant rooms and breakfast is included. Some rooms overlook the river and have large French windows; others look on to the historic Fonte Taurina. Everything you’d want to see in historic Porto is a short walk away: churches, cathedrals, view-points, old shopping streets, good restaurants and bars. There are boats which take tours up the river and a must for all is a walk across the Dom Luis iron bridge for visits of the Port lodges. For a stay in Porto, you couldn’t be better located. If you’re into culture, art, history, food and wine, you’ll be in heaven.

Extra Notes
Being a city guesthouse, it does not have a garden and outdoors amenities. Instead, you'll enjoy walking through the old cobbled streets and alleyways, sitting out by the river and dining al-fresco in the many restaurants in the Ribeira and other parts of historic Porto and Gaia. We do not have our own parking, but very close by is an underground car park. However, if just visiting Porto and staying with us, a car is not needed. The train station is a few minutes away, should you want to visit other cities.

Apart from the historic city centre and riverside, for those who want to go to the beach, the nearest is at Foz (5 km down-river; accessible by taxi, bus and old tram). This is very much a city beach location, with bars, restaurants, promenades.

Those wanting longer breaks in the country and pursuits such as kayaking, white-water rafting, moutain walks can head either north to the Minho region or south to the Beiras.

Extra Notes
Exact location shown on map. Address: Rua da Fonte Taurina 99-101, Ribeira, Porto. When staying in historic Porto, a car is not necessary. It is an old medieval town, so streets are narrow, winding, cobbled. Much better and more interesting to walk. A car is only recommended once you head on to visit other regions of Portugal in the countryside. Taxis and public transportation are not expensive.

GUEST BOOK COMMENTS
HIDEAWAY PORTUGAL visit- July 2012: Much to recommend here. An unbeatable location, right on the river-front with views over to the Port lodges and Eiffel's iron bridge. Historic sights and restaurants all around. A place to soak up the atmosphere of this medieval district. An old building, renovated with elegant modern interiors. Large windows, views over the river or the Ribeira alleyways. A cute breakfast room downstairs. This is a labour of love by friendly owners Carmen and João. Great advice given on places to see in Porto and for trips up to the Douro vineyards.
